Ni una menos: Violence against women and justice in Guatemala, directed by Gabriela Martínez Escobar, is a 33 minute documentary about the femicide case of Claudia Eunice Villegas González killed by her boyfriend in the city of Huehuetenango, Guatemala. It follows Claudia’s family journey to get justice for the murder of Claudia, and through this case we learn about the Law of Femicide and Other Violence Against Women, the creation of specialized courts, and the challenges and promises of this law in a country where the abuse and killing of women due to their gender condition is one of the highest in the world. Furthermore, the long years of struggle for the protection of women and women’s rights is addressed, including the impact of the law in past cases like the Sepur Zarco case.
Co-producers Erin Beck, Lynn Stephen, and Gabriela Martínez Escobar.
